Make Your Own Grain Bin Monitoring System
WHY SPEND THOUSANDS WHEN YOU COULD SPEND JUST A FEW HUNDRED?!
- Know the condition of your grain as you place it into your bin
- Know the condition of your grain for the duration of its storage in your bin
- Minimize spoilage
- Avoid losing money by over drying your grain
- Make more money by (legally) re-hydrating your grain to (near) industry standards
- (Hopefully) Minimize the need to enter your bin to remove/breakup spoilage
- (And, did we mention)… Make More Money
FAQ
- Is it necessary to use the exact parts described in the Guide?
- For the most part, you may substitute parts at your discretion except for:
- Any Arduino microComputer other than the MEGA
- The LCD screen.
- Our development roadmap includes an LCD replacement probably sometime in 2025.
- One reason why other LCD screens will not work is because the HMT device setup is managed via touch controls. LCD screens other than the one in the guide would mostly likely negatively impact the "touch mappings."
- At the moment, we do not recommend replacing the AM2305 sensor with any other sensor.
- However, other "One-Wire" sensors may work.
- Just keep in mind that other/cheaper sensors may not have the longevity and reliability that you need.
- Which is also the reason why the sensors need to be calibrated and replaced often.
- Feel free to experiment with other components, BUT keep in mind that we cannot guarantee any specific results.
- For the most part, you may substitute parts at your discretion except for:
- If I build it now, can I upgrade later?
- Absolutely!
- Our development roadmap includes a few, free firmware updates left for the "Version 5.x" devices in 2024.
- Most of the components will probably stay the same for the version 6 device planned for 2025, but that is not 100% certain yet.
- But, even if the version 6 device is different, the version 5 devices you build now will continue to work until the weather, environmental, and wear-n-tear conditions take their final toll.
- Absolutely!
- When will grains other than Corn and Soy be supported?
- SOON!
- We are hoping that we will be able to integrate support for numerous other grains by the fall of the 2024. (Just in time for harvest) Check back here often for updates.
- SOON!
- I don't believe that 3 sensors is enough for my bin. Can I add more?
- The short answer is - YES.
- The longer answer is: Since each HMT device only supports 3 "inside-the-bin" sensors, you would need to build and install more HMT devices.
- Thus, you can have as many sensors as you want in your bin if you build and install the necessary number of devices.
- Can the HMT device actively control my bin's fan?
- The short answer is - "NO"
- The PRO version of the HMT device has "accessory" outputs and recommendation LEDs. Theoretically, one or both of the accessory output(s) could control a secondary circuit that then would control the bin fan's contactor. For liability reason, we don't offer those circuits.
- The short answer is - "NO"
